Roon the Watter

Roon the Watter (“Round the Water”) is an officially measured 10km road race part of the Gatehouse Gala week together with a Junior Fun Run.  Starting from the Gatehouse of Fleet Community Centre, the runs through the Gatehouse of Fleet with supporting crowds cheering you on.  It then turns left at the top of the town, staying left at each road junction crossing the Water of Fleet, up a short sharp hill past the castle, before a long 2-3 mile gentle down hill back into Gatehouse of Fleet.  The circular route follows much of the Water of Fleet river (hence “Roon the Watter”) both upstream and down.

Entries to the event can be made via Entry Central on

Registration is from 17:45 to 18:50 with the Junior 2.5km Fun Run for those 14 and under starting at 18:30 and the 10 kilometer event for those 15 and older starting at 19:00.  The race starts from the Gatehouse Community Centre.  Entry Fee is as per the Entry Central race registration page above.

All runners will receive a memento of the day with prizes as follows:

• Top 3 Male and Female
• 1st Male and Female junior (under 18)
• Female v35, v45, v55+
• Male v40, v50, v60+

Fun Run:

• Top 3 male and female
• Male and Female under 9
• Male and Female under 11
• Male and Female under 13
• Male and Female under 15

Mementos and Trophies

There is plenty of parking within the village of Gatehouse, although note that parking at the Community Center is reserved for marshalls, stalls and the finish area.  The Community Center has toilets and is the race HQ where race numbers are collected, late entries and presentations held.  Please note, there are no showers available on site.

The event will have one water stop around the 5 km mark with further water supplied at the end of the race.

After the event, there are plenty of restaurants and pubs in the village where we would encourage you to stay and enjoy the scenic area.

Note to all competitors and spectators that the 10 kilometer race is run in an anti-clockwise direction.  The route will head south past the Community Centre and left up through the High Street to the cheers and applause of the supporting spectators.  The race finish will be a lovely long and gentle downhill back into Gatehouse of Fleet to end at the Community Centre as previously.
